Description:
Digital Games, including mobile games, is one of the most popular entertainments for people of different ages in the society. Playing and Creating games is not just fun, it’s an enjoyable learning process. Through the process of digital game-making, learners can learn coding and game design. Their 21st century skills will also be enhanced: creativity, logical thinking, problem solving, communicating and collaborating skills. This course provides an overview of digital game design & development and students can develop their first digital and mobile game.
Objectives:
The course will include over 80% interactive elements such as open-ended discussions, hands-on activity, mini group projects and group presentations. The activities would be carefully designed with an aim to develop students’ high-order thinking, creativity, and problem solving skills.

Their games will also be reviewed and discussed among the class by the end of the course.

Objectives:
- Introduce the concept of coding, game design and development;
- Explain the functions of a set of tools for fast game prototyping and development;
- Enhance students' creativity, logical thinking, problem solving, communicating & collaboration skills;
- Encourage students to create games that have positive impacts to the society
- Critically reflect the specific roles of programming, audio or art in digital game development;
- Solve an authentic problem by adopting various problem solving approaches;
- Creatively design an interesting digital game;
- Understand art and design requirements and issues associated with different types of digital games;
- Distinguish between mobile platforms, genres, and associated player markets;
- Understand how to test for fun and playability factors

Part I:
- Overview of the history of digital games
- Introduction to the basic concept of game design and game development
- Experience basic game design and understand the concept of game development
- Create their first game in group and present their games to the class (Kodu)
Part II:
- Introduction to Game Salad
- Create three games in different genres
- Individual game project
- A group game project
- An individual game project
Their games will also be reviewed and discussed among the class by the end of the course.
